“Heavenly Beauty”

November 24, 2022

By Kimmy Foulds

The Old Country Church.

A relaxing, honorable place of grace with significant meaning.

Spiritual community within giving praise singing.

Upon entering the white steeple building to worship weekly, is an older man greeting with loving reflections so deeply.

Gathering with family, friends and relatives.

Diverse congregation is present with occasional representatives.

Tender memories of past, present seeping into the future with precious emotions galore.

Adorable, off-key songs sung with thankfulness forever more.

Important attendance endeared to sustain as impressions remain.

Simply beautiful, childhood days filled with that rural country age.

Prayer continually taught while belief in faith positively sought.

Calmness spreads with kindness as gentle forgiveness is observed as selflessness.

Qualities of compassion expressed with genuine passion.

Comfort, a sense of generosity for loyal sincerity.

Respecting others with manners of highest virtues that matter.

Prompted to correct, unintended to hurt, honesty to be kept.

Care abundantly for all, especially the innocent ones to thrive triumphantly overall.

Reminding of opening the bible in the home as a defense of a possible roam.

Scriptures read around the dinner table to ensure the words are not fable.

Traditions spark when solos, choirs or gospel stories are inspired to be admired.

Old time hymns and skits learned, practiced and performed are remembered to stand reformed.

Teachings introduced at Sunday school carries through to educational vacation bible school.

Church sponsored summer bible camps in the sun bring fond recollections of yearly fun.

Religion based talent shows rejoicing by packed audiences squeezed in many rows.

Christian music echoing on stage as anticipated recitals start to engage.

Etiquette is seen in the house of God to respect sacred reign.

Sitting straight, shaking hands, acknowledging people, being quiet during sermons are predetermined.

Knowing to wear Sunday’s Best with pride of resting, refreshed dressed.

Enjoying baptisms, weddings, celebrations, holidays are intricate weaves to take place in God’s space.

Awaiting the Sunday potlucks with delicious food dishes wafting upstairs trying to focus on the preacher’s speech from imagining the preparing buffet downstairs.

Fidgety waiting on the hard oak wooden curved pews, looking around to study curious views.

Lingering after Sunday morning’s message was to climb the apple tree for the straight passage.

Asking permission to stay outside to play was enticement and excitement.

A wholesome lifestyle in fundamental credence centered around Jesus develops a dedicated right style.

Values born and understood to hold dear even during trials to be withstood.

As heavenly blessings are sent on this Thanksgiving Day, may this biblical verse be shared in every way.

Colossians 3:12 “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”

Original lyrics to “The Old Country Church” psalm was written by composer and ordained Presbyterian minister, Elisha Albright Hoffman, in the late-1800s for God’s purposeful guidance and devout qualities.
