“Banned Books”

June 25, 2024

By Kimmy Foulds

Yes, this recent South Florida news is real and will not be subject to an appeal for Indian River County School Board in Vero Beach, Florida of the Treasure Coast banned a book after opposition from parents affiliated with Moms for Liberty entitled, Ban This Book, by author Alan Gratz written for 8-to-12-year-olds encouraging them to challenge authority.

Moms for Liberty is a far-right organization that has been behind several book bans across the United States in past years and this Vero Beach chapter fought to ban Ban This Book in their school district, which describes a schoolgirl being told she could not check out her favorite book because the book was banned so the schoolgirl creates a secret banned-books library to decide what she and her schoolmates can read.

In 2017 when Ban This Book was published, the most frequently banned books were works from series such as “Harry Potter” or “Captain Underpants,” by critics objecting to references of witchcraft or attitudes toward power stances.

“For What It’s Worth,” controversy over banning books for certain group reasons has been established in the United States since the 17th century centered around censorship as the first book ban was considered as book burning and now can be as stunning and mind blowing as this current decision to ban a book about book bans.

Please ponder Proverbs 2:6 Bible verse in this circumstance for the author realizes everyone can make a positive difference in cohesion for wisdom when led with a pure heart to be apprised with information gained by books but to take imperative uplifting messages to comprehend and explain can be a unity of valued conversations within oneself, family and others instead of separation, blame or shame.

“For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.,” Proverbs 2:6 New International Version (NIV) of the Christian Bible; Still, the best-selling book of All time.
