“Willing Strength”

November 18, 2023

By Kimmy Foulds

A strange conversation years ago is remembered by the author who was laughed at and ridiculed for slicing plastic rings at work to recycle. Being a willing advocate for environmental change endures strength, grit and determination to stand on one’s beliefs with knowledge gained and reasoning purpose while informing the mockers of the detrimental severity to ocean life.

Thousands of birds, turtles, marine mammals and wildlife are killed every year by dangerous discarded six pack plastic rings that cause entanglement, choking, disfiguration, strangulation or starvation.

Always cut plastic rings before throwing them away as they are hazard, deadly things in the seas and waterways.

Sharing old, yet pertinent sustainable importance from 2010, Saltwater Brewery in Delray Beach, Florida developed the first ever 100% biodegradable, compostable and edible six pack rings in the beer industry.

Launched in 2016 and continuing to the present day, Saltwater Brewery replaced plastic rings entirely with an eco-friendly version made from wheat and barley waste that are natural byproducts of the beer-making brewing process.

Instead of killing animals, Saltwater Brewery’s edible rings feed them.

Be responsible, accountable and dependable by taking actions quickly and decisively as this outstanding descriptive song, “Goes Around Comes Around: A Song About Plastic Pollution In Our Oceans,” by Brian Goodall raises awareness to be an ambassador not a scoffer about the seriousness of plastic pollution in the oceans around the world that can be twirled from negative to positive and implementing the three Rs: reduce, reuse, recycle.

More references and facts about plastic ocean pollution can be learned at Sea Turtle Conservancy and UNESCO.
