“Being Hungry In America”
November 25, 2022
By Kimmy Foulds
Food insecurity can be long term or temporary due to many factors as a lack of consistent access to enough food for every person in a household to live an active, healthy life.
Some reasons could be affecting the family’s income, employment, natural disasters, unforeseen circumstances, death, race, ethnicity or disabilities.
The risk for food insecurity increases when money to buy food is limited or not available.
Decisions must be made to either feed the family, pay rent or mortgage, utilities and many more fundamental living sustaining needs. Severe choices are forced to be necessary.
There are situations when some members of the family may go hungry and others who do not. Parents in food insecure families might have enough food to feed their children but perhaps experience hunger themselves.
